Jeju Island :-)

These pics are from my trip to Jejudo Island.  Jeju is kinda like Hawaii is for us, a vacation get away.  It’s a semi tropical climate and the Island is made from volcanoes.  To drive from top to bottom would take about 2 hours and to go from side to side would take about 3 hours.  Strangely, the tallest Mt. in Korea is Mt. Halla  which is in the center of Jeju Island and every thing goes out from there.  I’m pretty confident in saying that there are no active volcanoes in Korea.  If there is, I’ve not heard of it.

The landscape of Jeju I think is more striking when viewing it from a distance.  The horizon is filled with stand alone Mts.   Not something I’m used to seeing when looking at Mts.  Halla has a Mt. range, (hard to call it a range since it’s geographically so small :-) but outside of that, the valleys are long and flat, not what we are used to for valleys at all.  It’s really quite beautiful.

The first day of our trip you will see pics from a volcano, a waterfall, and a coast line.  The next day was Sunday, so after church, lunch and a nap lol, we went to Woodo Island which is a very small island off of the eastern side of Jeju.  Monday we got up at 4:30 so I could get some incredible sunrise shots.  Well, there were a lot of clouds to look at. :-P  I did get a few pics, but it was long after sunrise when the clouds finally move off.  Nut bunnies!  The comments below the sunrise pics are taken from tourist info that I have.  We then went to Halla Mt. and then back to bed.  4:30 with a major climb is just too much lol.  After our nap is was back to the airport and grub at another most wonderful restaurant.

Well, I hope you enjoy the pics and can get at least some idea of what Jeju is like.  You better enjoy them!  It took me 4 hours to do all of the work needed to post them :-P  But, you are worth it and I love the comments.  Nothing but love for ya baby, nothing but love.  lol

This was the view outside our dinning area at the hotel. The hotel was built as a memorial to a missionary. The church that built it is in Seoul, the very one I've displayed on my blog earlier this year, Meyong Sung Prsb Chrch. Because my friends were members we could stay here and eat here very cheaply. The cost for each of us for the weekend, food, car rental, hotel, flight, was only about $350 US! What a great and inexpensive trip. :-) We were in Jeju for 3 days and two nights. Posted by Picasa

What a wonderful attitude toward nature. This is a stinken old tree. Look at the size of that trunk. I was so impressed I had to take a picture. Posted by Picasa

This is the entrance to a park featuring a very old volcano, or what's left of it any way. This was our first stop of 3 on Sat. after driving around forever trying to find our hotel. It was a great day. :-) Posted by Picasa

This park was only 5 mins from our hotel wich as you know is in the middle of no-where :-) Very nice. Posted by Picasa

These are burial mounds. They are everywhere in Korea, especially in Jeju. As far as I was able to figure out, just regular people are buried here. They are very old so I really don't know. The tomb stones are in Chinese so my friends couldn't tell me much. Posted by Picasa

I found several of these beautiful spiders around the volcano park. I'm still no closer to knowing what they are though. I've looked and looked and there is not much written in English about Korean spiders. I need to buy a book. They are stunning though and I love em. :-) Posted by Picasa

Now that's a spider :-) Posted by Picasa

Recognize the rock. Use what ya got. Posted by Picasa

This is San-Gumburi Crater. Just one of many. Not much is left of this volcano. From the air it looks like just a big hole in the ground. The top ridge is only 15-20 meters (roughly 45-60 ft.) above the ground. Posted by Picasa

Paul, Chris, and Jane. My tour guides :-) Thank you very much. Posted by Picasa

Having farming always percolating in my blood, I have to say what a wonderful view. Breathtaking. Posted by Picasa

Some how I don't think this is for target practice. Posted by Picasa

This was our second stop of the day. Nice place. Don't know the name. It's on the Southern Coast if you ever get to Jeju. :-) Posted by Picasa

Quite the coast line. Posted by Picasa

Kind of a panaramic shot. This is on Woodo Island, our Sunday trip, and it is a 20 minute ferry ride from Jeju. It's a small island but ppl do live on it. Posted by Picasa

Very interesting geological formation. I really wish I could have asked someone about it all. there is a cave down at the waters edge. Posted by Picasa
